The last days…

No, nothing prophetic… Saturday is my last day in the rental and I’m off on Friday to get all the last odds and ends moved and do some thorough cleaning. This time of rentership has not been bad at all. This house was built around 2004, has good-sized rooms and is amply heated and cooled. The kitchen is a joy and despite the very small yard, I’ve enjoyed the late summer Bartlet pears from the tree. My landlady Penny has been ideal too. She is friendly, helpful, and handles business by the book. She has sent me a Christmas and Easter card each year I’ve been here and I watch her and her dog pass my office window on their morning or afternoon walk virtually every day.

It’s mostly because of her attitude and ease of renting from her, I want to get all my moving done Friday and thoroughly clean Saturday, the last day. I haven’t moved my pressure washer so I can clean the siding and wash the moss off the walkway. The least I can do to return her kindness is make the place easy to rent again.

I know the last things I will do in the house before handing over the keys: take a shower and do a load of laundry. It may be a week before I have a usable shower again and I know it will be a month before I have a washer and dryer of my own to use again.

I know… I’ll just pretend I’m camping for a few weeks!
Everyone’s invited over for s’mores around the wood stove!
