Screaming right along…
|Things are moving fast and furious now. I think it’s a combination of 1- this phase usually does come along quickly and 2- there’s a deadline with significant consequences tied to it.
Over the weekend Troy, Zach his assistant, and I put up insulation. That’s a whole bunch of itchy pink fluff! I could handle the insulating job for the vertical walls but got to appreciate Troy’s agility dancing around one his ladders, both feet placed on the step above the step labeled “do not stand above this step” for the ceiling. In the evening after working with the stuff my skin looked like I had a massive rash. And yes, I was wearing a long sleeve T-shirt and jeans. After settling into bed for the night, I could feel my legs burn from the contact with the fibers.
On Monday at 6:30am Troy was at the house to fix a few minor corrections; a piece of bracing here, a vent cap there. Later that morning the house passed its insulation inspection. That afternoon the sheet-rocking began. By Tuesday noon, the master bedroom was done and Troy was moving on to the utility hall. I was following behind with the tape and mud. My job was to mud and tape everything 8 feet high and under. With a head start, I went to town and by Wednesday evening, Troy had finished with the sheet rock and had all but caught up to me mudding the high ceilings and walls. About midnight we had everything mudded in the bedroom and utility hall.
Thursday began with a 6:30am trip to the paint store for my exterior paint and dash by Fred Meyers for some much-needed groceries and back to the house. Troy had arrived ahead of me with more sheet rock and exterior siding. Today Troy and Zach tackled the bathroom and closet and by noon had it completely walled. I sanded down all the mudded tape (8 feet and under), cleaned out the garage space and tore additional siding off the back of the house. Just before Zach and Troy each left for lunch they installed a set of the French doors–the ones that go in the master bedroom. They look beautiful!
So this afternoon we hope to install the other door set, get another layer of mud on the seams and I might get a little paint on the trim boards of the house as the gutter guy is waiting for me to paint to get the gutters in.
Not a lot of sleep and certainly no time to do laundry.
