All quiet on the permitting front…
|On Tuesday I scurried to the City Plans and Permitting office. The lead inspector, Rich, had some corrections for me to address in my plans… the rafter and foundation plans especially. I pulled those together as quickly as I could and redelivered the updates to his office Wednesday just before going out of town for a work conference on Wednesday morning. As I gathered my overnight bag and waited for Enterprise to pick me up, I sighed relief that I wasn’t also attempting to cram moving furniture into the already-scarce hours of my day. The morning had rather important for work–I gained a major work contract, and finally broke away with barely enough time to pack my bag and wait by the curb for my 2:40pm ride.
Before standing by the curb, I checked the Oregon DOT highway cameras. The route I planned to take crossed one notable mountain pass that was now showing 50-60mph winds, one inch of snow on the ground and flurries. Rats! That meant I had to drive an alternate route that was two hours longer. As it was, Enterprise showed up 20 minutes late. It was suspect too that the car smelled of french fries when they finally arrived. Once they signed me in for my rental car, it only had 1/4 tank of gas (!!!!!!!). Immediately I had to waste another 20 minutes aiming for a gas station that was not on my way. So I’m told, if you want the ride to pick you up on time and if you want a full tank of gas, you have to specially request it. I AM NOT KIDDING!!! I asked them what normal customer wouldn’t want a full tank of gas or an on-time arrival from them. They seemed to think wanting these things was unusual for their Hillsboro, OR renters. I seem to think I need to rent cars from somebody else.
Back to the permitting… given the inspector had no previous hesitation calling me to come in and address problems in the first go-round, I am hoping the day of silence is a good thing. Maybe I’ll return to an approved permit? That would be wonderful. Hopefully quiet is a good thing.
