Random thoughts…

“Well, you’re sure not afraid a little hard work.”  Why is it people keep saying this to me? OF COURSE this takes hard work. To venture into something like this you either expect work or are in for a really big surprise.

Rubberneckers and loopers. It’s funny how some people slow down as they pass my house. I muse over what they’re thinking.  “That place is such a dump!”   “Gee, that’s either a woman working there or that guy sure has pretty hair.”  Tonight I noticed a burgundy SUV pass four or five times. Either they’re really bad about grouping errands or they’re taking rubbernecking to a new level.

I’m not fast; I’m not strong; I am persistent. This is probably my best self-description. Guys seem to understand it and respect it. Maybe I skip the heaviest rocks and could just barely shove the concrete forms they were tossing onto the truck, but with my willingness to put in the time, I accomplish a respectable amount of work.

Treat your assistants well. It bothers me that for many this is not just a given. My goal is to keep water and sodas on hand; to be friendly and upbeat with everyone; and to occasionally bring in lunch for everyone. While good work is expected, it still deserves appreciation and thanks.

Sanity Garden.I’m so glad the back yard is coming along so well. When I need to, I can walk into the yard behind the concrete and dirt mess and exhale. The grass is thick and soft, the tulips, magnolia and daffodils are blooming and the veggie garden is starting to take shape. In fact, let’s escape there now…

Aaaaaah-- so peaceful!
It's coming together. LOOK- a birdbath now!

Strong character stands out. Working with Troy I get to observe a really great character strength of his. There are times the tone of Troy’s voice says he’s irritated at something or someone, but he doesn’t detail the trouble. He just relates his next step to keep things moving forward. He keeps he eyes set on the goal.
