Whimsy

Some of my art is pursued in whimsy. Another non-secret of my life is that I am a Christian. I may be a different sort of one though. Among my notions of God is that He delights in pointing out little glimpses of wonder in the world, like a kind grandfather who delights in the wonder that fills his granddaughter’s eyes when he shows her some wondrous shiny, ticking clockwork kept on a high shelf.

I was enjoying the salt air and looking for life in the tidal pools at the Oregon coast when one such wondrous charm stopped me in my tracks. That photo I called “Hidden Cove” but I struggled with giving it that name. To me, its true name is “Poseidon’s Mask.”

If you don’t agree, turn the photo on its side and you’ll see jolly Poseidon with feathery mustache smiling back at you.
